Content

This course covers the technical protocol for the ultrasound patency evaluation for the above knee portion of the lower extremity peripheral venous system.

We will review how to image the peripheral venous system for patency with B-mode, color Doppler, and spectral pulsed wave Doppler.

We will practice orienting via anatomic landmarks and image optimizing along the way.

We continue with the technical protocol for the ultrasound evaluation for the below knee and saphenous vein portion of the lower extremity peripheral venous system.

Following we review the ultrasound evaluation of lower extremity peripheral venous pathology. We image and document the pathological findings of deep vein thrombosis via B-mode, color Doppler, and spectral Doppler.

Functional venous testing is complementary to ultrasound imaging of the peripheral venous system. Together, these modalities allow us to paint a complete and vivid picture of the patient's peripheral venous pathology. Consequently air plethysmography testing and intravascular ultrasound will be addressed with this chapter.
